Common knowledge associates chiropractic with solely the spine and diseases or disorders around the spine but in reality, chiropractic treats disorders throughout the body that originate at the spine. Issues that seem unassociated with the spine, like a migraine or pinched nerve can actually be relieved with a manipulation or adjustment of the spine. The purpose of an adjustment is to reincorporate movement to your spine enabling it to return closer to its natural state resulting in better movement and better health.
In our everyday lives, we overuse or misuse our muscles or sometimes we suffer from unnatural impact on our body. This can lead to inflammation, discomfort, pain and diminished mobility which can further manifest into more severe disorders if not treated properly. At our Wellness Center, we relieve these issues with a hands-on approach to restore movement to your spine.
Treatments or adjustments include spinal and cervical manipulation and/or flexion-distraction. These forms of treatment work to restore the restricted movement in your spine and neck that are the source of your pain and discomfort.
Spinal manipulations are the most common form of a chiropractic adjustment. Being a key part of our central nervous system, spinal manipulations can alleviate pain and discomfort caused by irritation from spinal restrictions. In addition, manipulations encourage movement allowing nutrients to travel to our joints. Our joints cannot receive nutrients without proper movement and blood flow.
Flexion-distraction is a procedure that relieves neck and back pain. It is performed on a table specifically designed for this treatment. The flexing, extending and bending pieces allow the chiropractor to make adjustments that relieve lower back, leg, and arm and neck pain, caused by disc herniations as well as neuropathic pain (pinched nerve).

What to expect:
Before treatment: You will under go a consultation with the doctor to understand your specific concerns and needs. A case history and physical examination will also be performed. If necessary, x-rays can be taken on premise.
During the treatment: First, the doctor will warm up your tissues; this will allow your muscles to be ready for the treatment, similar to stretching before participating in physical activity. While being treated, the doctor will ask for you to relax while he moves different areas of your spine. You will hear popping noises as gas is released from your joints indicating that the motion is being restored back into the joints.
After the treatment: After your first treatment, you may experience some soreness and sometimes a tingling sensation as your blood flow increases to the areas adjusted. After subsequent treatments, you will have less sensations of soreness or tingling as the body adjusts to the treatment.
